The Duraptor™ can easily be adapted to different
types of high integration mobile systems. Systems base on standard
products and verified subsystems. The modular architecture and
internal structure of the Duraptor fully exploits advantage of
the stacking modularity of PC/104Plus modules. A ready
hardened computer platform speeds up hardware and software
development and approvals, reduces design risk and time-to-market.
This example train-installed computer system is constructed from a
standard computer core for our customer with project specific expansion
interfaces. Connector and functional adaptation and system upgrading does
not result in NRE-costs or any incompatible mechanical structures that
can not be re-used. The Eurotech Duraptor system was selected for this
project due to its mechanical suitability and ability to cost
effectively adapt to customer specific requirements including high
level of functionality. This system is installed inside the train and
needs to be dust and intrusion protected with an ambient operating temperature
range of -20 to +55C.
The Duraptor system includes a high reliability extended temparature range
Pentium® III CPU, 8GB of solid state mass storage, a EN50155 train
installation qualified power supply all in a rugged dust protected enclosure
that provides structural heat dissipation for the 800MHz PIII processor module.
Internal cabling, filtering and connectors to the outside
were made with application specific pin-outs on the front and back panels.
This system is dimensioned to accept two future project specific I/O
and wireless communication expansion modules.
Applications software development was performed on a Development
Platform of the CPU-1461 with regular PC/104 expansion cards using
a full WIN-XP operating system. Testing and evaluation can be done
with hardware that is exactly identical to the final system. The
final software solution can easily be migrated to an eXP environment.
Available generic interfaces were tailored to meet the most
common system requirements. These include regular serial ports,
USB 2.0 ports, monitor, PS/2 keyboard and mouse as well as
power and multiple 10/100Mbit Ethernet ports derived from the
internal 5-port Ethernet switch. Dedicated protected connectors
are used for the high speed USB2.0 interface.
