Eurotech presentation on DuraCOR™ Central Units

The Eurotech DuraCOR™ 1230 is a standard video processing system platform designed for onboard mobile video capture, processing and storage applications in demanding vehicle installations.

The DuraCOR™ 1230 is based on a high reliability 1GHz Celeron® PC-architecture compatible with Linux, Windows CE and Windows XPe operating systems, which shortens time-to-market and enables technology and software to be leveraged to multiple projects.

DuraCOR™ 1230 is designed to withstand the mechanical and environmental stress commonly encountered in vehicle installations in tropical or arctic conditions. A wide operating temperature range is achieved using structural heat dissipation.

This compact and rugged central unit uniquely combines a powerful freely programmable Intel x86 architecture PC with multi-standard 4-channel video capture, GPS navigation, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, WiFi, Serial ports can connect to devices, sensors and other subsystems in the vehicle or to external communication terminals. Other peripheral devices can interface to the DuraCOR 1230 using two USB1.1 ports.

A 12-channel parallel-tracking Fastrax iTrax03 GPS receiver provides reliable real-time timing and location of the moving vehicle.

Wireless roaming in CDMA2000, TETRA, GPRS or GSM-R networks can be achieved using external terminals connecting to the DuraCOR 1230 serial ports. In volume projects the GSM or GPRS can be integrated inside the DuraCOR 1230 central unit.

The Eurotech Zypad wireless wrist-worn wearable PC can be used as a personal display and user interface connecting to the DuraCOR over wireless LAN. Using the Zypad together with the DuraCOR series central units creates a flexible distributed data processing environment and can replace traditional fixed vehicle displays or PDA devices.

Internal mass storage includes a solid-state 512MB Disk-on-Module. This device is intended to contain the Operating System image and application. A 2,5" "Media Slot" accepts a 2,5" flash or rotating automotive HDD. Optionally a CF-card can be installed into the media slot using an adaptor that mounts in place of a HDD.

All Eurotech systems feature a unique "system monitor" that increases system operating reliability and safety. Internal operations are controlled by the intelligent system monitor. Temperature and supply voltage monitoring combined with system device management is autonomously handled by the "system monitor" microprocessor and the host PC can access temperature, voltage and status log data. An I2C-bus port is available for external access to the internal monitor bus. Through this I2C-port diagnostics and service tasks can be easily performed, even though the system is powered off.

The DuraCOR™ 1230 meets the requirements of the EN50155 standard with a wide operating temperature range (-25°C/+70°C) as well as resistance to humidity, shocks and vibrations commonly encountered in mobile installations.

To improve the mechanical durability locking watertight circular vehicle grade I/O connectors are used. The WLAN antenna uses a locking R-SMA connector to increase reliability. Camera inputs connect through sealed BNC connectors. The back side panel of the system is dedicated for device I/O, service and utility I/O are located under a protective sealed cover. Maintainance interfaces include: I2C-bus, VGA output, keyboard and mouse. No fixed system peripheral device connectors need to be removed to access the utility I/Os.
