The RSU™ Removable Storage Unit from Eurotech provides a reliable and flexible removable mass storage solution for embedded systems. A high availability connection through a USB 2.0 interface allows for sustained data rates exceeding 26 Mbytes per second. The power for the RSU™ unit can be derived directly from the high current USB 2.0 ports of the Eurotech COM-1440. Live insertion is supported and the hard disk will automatically be identified by all modern operating systems. You can connect up to two RSU units to a single COM-1440 board. Interface to a regular USB 2.0 port is also supported, but this requires an external power supply to drive the unit.

A wide -20 to +85°C operating temperature range HDD unit is mounted on the board providing a storage capacity of 20GB or 30 GB. The disk drive is designed especially for automotive and vehicle installations. Eurotech provides standard enclosure solutions meeting the environmental requirements of MIL-STD-801. An onboard temperature monitor and microcontroller will not allow the drive to be operational if the temperature limits of the device are exceeded.

The optional authorization control and identification of the RSU™-USB is supported as part of the microcontroller firmware over serial I2C-bus adding to data security and protection.
