Amaro, Udine (Italy) October 14, 2005 Eurotech will shortly be
releasing a new, rugged, compact and low power system for video surveillance applications
that further enhances the advanced functionalities of a DVR (Digital Video Recorder).
Such a solution is capable of acquisition and storage of high resolution video streams
onto an integrated data storage module, and is capable of transmission of image data
over long distance wireless connections such as (GPRS, CDMA2000, UMTS, WiFi 802.11.X, Bluetooth).
The system continuously dynamically utilizes the available bandwidth ensuring
maximum data throughput and minimum data loss.
The Eurotech system fully utilizes the advanced capabilities of the
JPEG2000 video compression algorithm on the aquired image. The compressed video data
file can be transmitted partially or completely depending on the requirement. A small
few kilobyte package contains all the information needed for the reconstruction of
the original image; the picture quality depends on the size of the file. Therefore
the transmitted data size can be dynamically adjusted depending on available bandwidth
or required picture quality. Such a solution reduces the quantity of data transmitted
over the wireless media, while minimizing loss of information and image corruption.
However, the internal mass storage in the system stores all the
video data streams in high resolution allowing for easy post-analysis from a remote
operating centre.
The Eurotech system features an internal intelligent control and monitoring
system called the "Guardian™" that allows the user to monitor the operating parameters
(such as temperature and internal voltages) and to manage the command execution logic
even if the system is in standby mode.
Due to their versatile architecture several Eurotech systems can
be interconnected together (for example one for each carriage of a train or bus) to
create a complete and advanced video surveillance network.
Thus, several different public transportation vehicles can be equipped with
Eurotech systems that can be accessed by a remote control centre in real time to improve
coordination and planning of operations. This helps to guarantee passenger security
and tranquillity at all times.

releases during Q4/2005 a new power supply called the ACS-5175
, ideally suited for military 12/24Vdc ground vehicle or 28V avionic systems.
Eurotech created a unique embedded power supply product that combines
on one PC/104 module 75W of output power, an ultra wide input range 9-45VDC or
16-80VDC, +5V and +12V outputs, a proprietary heavy duty multi-stage input filter
and protection circuitry as well as compliance to relevant MIL-standards required
in ground vehicle as well as airborne equipments. High reliability is ensured
by structural heatsinking support for DC-DC converter and the high power protection
devices. The protection circuitry can withstand reverse voltage, surge, overvoltage
and transients with dissipated heat being transferred to the structure of the enclosure.
Special design procedures include shielding, bypassing and filtering ensure that
the requirements of MIL-STD-461 are exceeded making overall system design easier.
The ACS-5175 will be available lead-free to comply with the new RoHS directives.
The +5V output can deliver up to 15A of current. The +12V
is cascaded on the +5V isolated converter capable of delivering 2,5A (3A peak).
All outputs are overload protected and filtered. The operating temperature
range is -40 to +85°C without degrading using when a structural heatsink is
used.

Eurotech announces that it will soon release a new
rugged modular all-in-one integrated computer and display system for a
variety of applications ranging from logistics and transportation to
machine control.
The ETS
product family has been introduced into the market to satisfy a growing
demand in different customer segments for an integrated central unit
and display that meets the requirements of mobile vehicle
installations. ETS offers unique flexibility with its internal
architecture, and making it the ideal platform for forklifts, fire and
rescue vehicles, ambulances and truck installations worldwide.
ETS is suitable for installations onboard trains,
buses and other public transport vehicles where a user interface is
needed. Internal expansion is possible using the PC/104Plus-bus slot
for example with a MPEG4 or JPEG-2000 compressing video
acquisition board. Furthermore the ETS has inbuilt GPS for precise
global positioning and GSM/GPRS/3G GSM-R or CDMA2000 1X modem for
worldwide roaming. Local wireless connectivity is possible using the
internal WLAN and optional Bluetooth. High performance I/O-interfaces
can be added to the 32-bit CARDBUS -slot and through the
enhanced high
current drive USB 2.0 port that supports direct connection of
devices such as cameras or external vehicle-rated HDD units ( RSU-USB
) for reliable mass storage up to 20GB.
The Eurotech ETS meets the requirements of the EN50155
standards as well as standards required for train and vehicle
installations. The isolated 35W power supply has a wide input range of
9 to 36VDC and is extensively protected and filtered to withstand
hostile electrical installations. Structural heat sinking, solid state
mass storage, thermal management and a fanless design result in an
extended operating temperature range (-25°C/+70°C) in addition
to resistance to humidity, shocks and vibrations. Two standard sizes
are available, one with a 12,1" and another with a 8,4" high resolution
TFT-display. Custom configurations are available with minimal added
cost and engineering.

Eurotech has introduced a complete new processor
family as an upgrade path from the ULV Celeron 400MHz based CPU-145X
family. The new CPU-146X family bases on a true
Intel Architecture combining a Pentium III processor, the Intel 815E
chipset and a combination of powerful high speeds peripherals.
Available are three product options: the CPU-1460
with standard embedded PC peripheral device integration, the CPU-1461
which supports up to 8 USB devices of which 6 are high speed USB 2.0
compliant and the CPU-1463
that features a Gigabit Ethernet interface combined with a 10/100Mbit
Ethernet controller. The use of 256MB of SMD soldered DRAM on the CPU
boards increases system reliability in high vibration installations.
The CPU-146X high performace Pentium III processor CPU
family is the ideal choice for applications requiring numerical
calculation, data compression or high data throughput rates to onboard
high speed peripheral interfaces. The Eurotech standard system
platforms DVR
-Digital video recorder and VDS
-Vehicle Data Server support the new Pentium III processor as an
option.
These new rugged CPU boards can be qualified for
extended temperature operation. Heat transfer is efficient using the
pupose-designed heat spreader that mounts onto the processor board
providing a smooth surface for structural heatsinking. Extensive
thermal analysis has been performed to ensure that components are not
stressed by excessive temperature load when Eurotech-recommended
mounting instructions are followed.
