Hamburg (Germany), June 23rd, 2009 – Eurotech, a leading provider of special purpose
computing platforms, today unveiled Aurora, a revolutionary supercomputer that sets
the pace for performance and efficiency. Aurora is packed with the most advanced
solutions, such as quad-core high performance Intel® Xeon® 5500 processors series,
100Gbps per node bandwidth capacity, programmable on-node acceleration, multi-level
synchronization networks and direct liquid cooling. Aurora sets a new standard of
excellence in high performance computing.
“The Aurora supercomputer breaks the rules by removing the bottlenecks that limit
the performance, efficiency and scalability of traditional systems”, said
Giampietro Tecchiolli, CTO and VP of Eurotech. “Its advanced technology permits
unprecedented effective performance, sets a record for footprint reduction and
radically cuts the total cost of ownership for installations of any size, with
energy savings as high as 60%.”
“The Aurora project is the result of a multi-group effort and we are excited that
the unique features of the Intel Xeon 5500 series processor have become the base
for such an innovative supercomputer system architecture. The Intel Xeon 5500
series brings up the bar considerably by turning the chip into a intelligent,
adaptable part of the server solution,” said Richard Dracott, general manager
of Intel’s High Performance Computing Group.
Aurora takes full advantage of the latest high performance, power efficient Intel
Xeon 5500 processors series.
The new generation processor is Intel’s most revolutionary server processor since
the introduction of the Intel Pentium® Pro processor 14 years ago. It can
automatically adjust to specified energy usage levels, speed-up data center
transactions and customer database queries thanks to new features such as Intel
Turbo Boost which increases system performance based on the user’s needs, and
Integrated Power Gates that turn off unused cores to save electricity and reduce
heat. In particular, Intel® Turbo Boost is a feature that allows the processor to
operate at higher speeds if a workload needs it and as long the processor isn’t
operating above its power and thermal limits. This allows the CPU to dynamically
deliver additional performance above the base frequency if needed.
The Intel Xeon processor 5500 series also takes intelligent power to a new level
with up to 15 automated operating states. These create significant improvements
in chip power management by adjusting system power consumption based on real-time
throughput and without sacrificing performance.
In addition, the user-friendly software environment is fully compatible with most
existing HPC codes and tools, and requires minimal or no porting for near optimal
performance. Extra acceleration is available using the integrated programmable accelerator.
Eurotech introduces the Unified Network Architecture™ (UNA) in Aurora, which offers
dramatic advantages over conventional HPC systems by radically improving performance
and feature set. At the same time, the UNA reduces the number of physical and logical
layers for exceptionally low memory to memory latency.
In each node, the UNA integrates a 60Gbps switchless 3D torus, a 40Gbps switched
Infiniband® network, three multilevel synchronization networks and a programmable
network processor. User-programmable logic transparently enables the optimal routing
of data packets and manages the multilevel synchronization networks, for seamless
scalability up to multiple PetaFLOPS.
Another exciting innovation is the Aurora direct liquid cooling system, which eliminates
vibrations and rotating parts while providing precise control over component temperature.
By removing the typical sources of failure in traditional HPC systems – even the on-node
storage is solid-state – and thanks to the embedded redundant design, Aurora is
exceptionally reliable.
Aurora is one of the greenest HPC systems on the market: its efficient design is
both light on the energy bill, eliminating the additional costs of traditional
cooling, and also makes it possible to squeeze as much number crunching as possible
from every Watt. Moreover, Aurora is environmentally conscious and so compact that
even PetaFLOPS installations may be possible in existing locations, allowing a sustainable
growth in performance and preservation of existing assets.

Eurotech has been working with Intel Corporation as an early adopter of Low Power
Intel® Architecture (LPIA) devices. As a result of this work Eurotech Ltd have now
released the new PROTEUS single board computer.
The PROTEUS is available in two configurations, allowing it to be deployed either as a
standalone device, or as a COM Express module.
In either version, PROTEUS offers all the benefits of Intel's embedded Atom processor,
providing levels of functionality and performance traditionally requiring a high
performance x86 board, but at a fraction of the power previously needed for comparable
systems. Featuring soldered down RAM and Flash memory, coupled to the extremely low
heat generation of the Atom processor, PROTEUS is perfect for applications needing
high end performance in a rugged, fanless package.
Sharing the same baseboard design, the two variants differ only in how various peripheral
connections are presented to the user. On the standalone variant, peripherals are presented
via headers and standard connectors on the board itself, whilst on the COM Express
version, these signals are presented on a standard COM Express Type 1 connector
supporting PCI Express, LPC, USB, dual LVDS, HD Audio, Gigabit Ethernet and
SMBus interfaces for connection to a carrier board. For convenience, a standard carrier
board is also available for the COM Express version, providing standard breakouts for the
various peripherals and expansion buses.
In addition to a full range of standard PC peripherals, the PROTEUS is able to interface
directly to LVDS displays and has an integral touchscreen controller. The provision of
two independent display controllers allows deployment in applications requiring different
content to be served to different users. GPS, Bluetooth and ZigBee are onboard options
and the provision of two sites for PCI Express Mini Cards allows easy and flexible
expansion for applications requiring wireless local and wide area networking support.
Having all this performance in such a small package is a truly compelling offering that
makes the PROTEUS ideally suited for applications such as infotainment, interactive
kiosks, access control, HMI, medical and industrial control.
A key feature of the PROTEUS is its full compatibility with a wide range of desktop and
pre-installed, ready to run, embedded operating systems including Windows XP, XP

Amaro, Italy - February 7th, 2008 - Arcom announces that it has entered into an agreement
with ProCat Management Services for 500 Zypads to assist in their warehouse management
solutions. The Zypad is an application ready wearable computer.
ProCat has chosen to use the Zypad as the foundation for PickRight, its latest
technology application, because of its diverse assortment of features and
functionality. PickRight has been developed to improve the order picking
process in distribution centers. Most distribution centers still use paper
picking tickets to pick customer orders. This process is slow and prone to
costly picking errors. The ProCat solution uses Zypad technology to replace
the current paper pick tickets and allow picking to become a hands free process.
Order picking instructions are wirelessly transmitted to the Zypad units.
Picking accuracy is insured with the Zypad accessory ring scanner that
allows the picker to easily scan product bar codes at the time of each
pick. Training time is greatly reduced with the easy to use displays that
appear on the Zypad touch screen. The ProCat solution significantly
improves the product picking process by reducing labor costs and
delivering perfect accuracy.
"We are very pleased with the functionality that we are getting from
the Zypad. We have developed an outstanding solution that we believe
will be implemented in 100's of distribution centers across North America
in the next few years. The Zypad is an excellent device for us." Said
Dave Copestick, President of ProCat.
ProCat Management Services develops specialty software applications
for convenience store chains and wholesale distributors. ProCat looked
at competitors in the industry but found that the Zypad had an open
platform which allowed them to design their own application and utilize
the ring scanner accessory to build the right solution for its clients.
"This order shows the value for our clients in Arcom cross selling products
from the Eurotech Group. Arcom is now able to offer its client's and future
client's finished products that are open, application ready platforms."
Said Arlen Nipper, President of Arcom.

Amaro, December 19th, 2007 - Eurotech invests in unmanned aerial vehicles
(UAV) with the acquisition of 21% of the share capital of UTRI SpA.
One year after the acquisition of 20% of the capital of Kairos Autonomi,
this operation completes Eurotech's technology offering in the UAV sector.
The acquisition of 21% of the share capital of UTRI SpA was effected using a
combined operation, part being bought from an existing shareholder and part
arising from a capital increase. The total value of the operation is around
Euro 800,000. The closing date shall be execute within January 2008.
UTRI (Unmanned Technologies Research Institute) operates in the market
for micro and mini autonomous aerial vehicles (unmanned and capable of
independent decision-making) for the aerospace and defence sectors. It
has its own advanced-research, development and system-assembly laboratories.
The company manufactures and markets its own range of products, most notably
the Skyporter, an autonomous guidance system for air-drops; Skypath, a navigator

cameras for area recognition with real-time data transmission; and OTUS, a mini
fixed-wing electric vehicle with a wingspan of just 150 cm.
In the short-term, a number of projects involving the manufacture of micro UAV
systems weighing less than a kilo and radar systems for detecting thermal currents,
which can be used in the aerospace industry to optimise landing routes, are in an
advanced stage of development.
In 2008, a number of new research programs funded through the Italian National
Military Research Programme (PNRM) will focus on the development of land and
sea miniaturised robot aircraft for use in military and homeland-security
surveillance and monitoring operations.
Cutting-edge technology and short development-to-market times for highly
innovative products (less than 24 months between conception and realisation)
have consolidated UTRI's position in the sector, the company having already
taken the European "Euroleader Award - Space & Satcom Navigation Sector" in 2006.
"Our presence in UTRI and Kairos Autonomi, will do more than generate new prospects
for the technologies in our group," explained Roberto Siagri, Chairman and Managing

Amaro, December 18th, 2007 - Eurotech Group today
announced an agreement with the Civil Defense Unit of Friuli
Venezia Giulia to supply Italian civil defense operators with
a fully wearable and non-invasive computer system for computation
and communications purposes in extreme conditions. Eurotech expects
to roll-out this new Rugged Zypad wearable computer worldwide during
the second half of 2008, targeting homeland security and military markets.
A fireproof uniform for the Italian Civil Defense Unit will
integrate health monitoring sensors, a helmet fitted with day/night-vision
video cameras and Eurotech's rugged wrist wearable PC. This technology
will allow the civil corps to work "hands-free" and simultaneously
communicate and exchange multimedia data with its command and control
center.
The objective of this new project is to improve safety for squad members
in the field and equip them with a sort of a "mini, personal command and
control center" to receive in real time all multimedia information
(maps, videos, information, audio) needed to optimize coordination
and management of missions. The new uniform will be fitted with
internal sensors that continuously monitor vital physiology of
emergency workers, recording heart rate, body temperature,
hydration levels, and overall health status.
Two independent video cameras will be located on the helmet - an
infrared camera that detects heat sources and provides improved
visibility in dark, smoky and foggy conditions, and a second,
highly sensitive camera which is efficient even in poor light
conditions - to visualize the images picked up and transmit them
in real time to the command and control center through a dedicated
radio channel.
All the devices and their functions will be coordinated through a
Rugged Zypad worn on the wrist, on which images and data can be
both seen and transmitted to the emergency dispatcher. An integrated
GPS system will pinpoint the exact location of the wearer and generates
a map of the area.
Soon joining the Zypad product line, the Rugged Zypad is distinguished
by its ability to work under extreme conditions, including physical
contact, shock, temperature changes, immersion in water, and operation
in explosive environments.
"This helps us improve actions in the field and achieve exceptional
safety for our teams," said Guglielmo Berlasso, Regional Director of
the Civil Defense Unit and Scientific Director of the project. "Thanks
to constant monitoring of physiological parameters, we can be aware of
dangerous situations and the vital signs of our squad members. This is
truly a showcase of technology at the service of mankind."
Wearable, intelligent technology that can exchange data in real time
under extreme conditions is no longer a goal for the future; it's here
in a project that opens new frontiers. The Eurotech Group expects to
formally introduce this technology worldwide during the second half of
2008 into the homeland security and military sectors.

Helsinki - February 7th, 2007 Eurotech has released the PCN-1001 Passenger
Counter that bases on non-contact stereoscopic vision detection technology.
This new technology and advanced interpretation algorithm results
in a high detection accuracy exceeding 97% under all lighting
conditions all year round. The reliable bi-directional counting
results in correct and precise data that can be used for statistical
or data interpretation. Date and time information can be stored together
with passenger count information.
Passenger movement detection in doorways requires the ability to adapt to
fast changing or low luminosity lighting conditions. The PCN-1001 optical
front panel combines stereoscopic cameras with high luminosity infrared LEDs.
This adjustable front panel can be set into different angles making
installation easier onto non-horizontal surfaces or different sensor positions.
The PCN-1001 supports parallel operation of multiple counters in a
daisy-chained configuration for wide doorways. The counters are able
to work together in real time with overlapping areas and active detection
zones. In stand-alone or daisy-chained operation a serial RS-485 level
communication bus is used to interface the sensors to the host PC of
the vehicle. Isolated digital inputs and outputs can be used to control
devices on the vehicle, detect door position or to trigger external systems.
Reliable operation and high availability is important in systems for
public transportation. The PCN-1001 is enclosed in a solid sealed
magnesium enclosure with locking automotive-grade connectors. The
rugged construction and wide operating temperature range makes the
PCN-1001 an ideal choice for installations in tropical or arctic
conditions. Service, reconfiguration and maintenance are easy due
to the easily accessible debugging and service interfaces available
under the protective cover of the optical panel.
Eurotech manufactures computer systems for public transportation
vehicles. The PCN-1001 is intended to work together with a vehicle
server that can pre-process, stores and upload information from the
vehicle passenger counters. Eurotech rugged standard vehicle central
units can be used for various on-board computation or data storage
tasks such as passenger counting, asset management, security and
surveillance, diagnostics and fleet monitoring, wireless
communication as well as information services.

Amaro (Udine, Italy) February 27th, 2006 - Eurotech as a manufacturer
and distributor of Electrical and
Electronic Equipment started a procedure to make all of its products compliant
with the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation.
The RoHS Directive is aimed at reducing the use of certain hazardous substances
in electrical and electronic equipment such as Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg) Hexavalent,
Chromium (Cr VI), Cadmium (Cd) and Poly brominated flame-retardants (PBB and PBDE).
From the 1st July 2006 all new electrical and electronic equipment
sold within the European Union must comply with this directive.
All of Eurotech's new products have already been designed to meet the
RoHS directive. Regarding existing products present within our catalogue,
they will be replaced with an equivalent model that will be compliant with
the directive. The new products will have a different model number with
respect to the one that it replaces also they will be identified by a
specific logo printed on the circuit board or on the label if it is a system.
The transformation will mean that many modules will be
completely redesigned using a new selection of the components, new assembly
procedures will be introduced - for example the soldering procedure
will need to be modified using different alloys and higher temperatures.
Even with the complexity and quantity of redevelopment involved Eurotech's
primary aim is to maintain the current level of pricing while minimizing the
impact on the end user. Moreover, in some cases products will be updated and
equipped with improved functionalities.
The actual release date of the new RoHS compliant products will
vary due to the varying complexity of the modifications required, Eurotech's goal
however is to have all the RoHS compliant products available for purchase before the
July 1st deadline, as established by the European Community, allowing its
customers to have products available in accordance with the guidelines.

Amaro,Italy January 13, 2006 Eurotech will soon release a
new PC/104 module providing an MVB-bus (Multi Function Vehicle Bus)
interface for enhanced communication capabilities onboard trains in Europe,
Russia and China. This new product has been developed to provide a PC/104
system with a reliable 1.5 Mbit serial MVB-communications bus to be used
onboard railway vehicles.
This new add-on module called the COM-1240 supports direct enhanced
communications with devices and systems installed on railway locomotives,
wagons and other rail vehicles thus simplifying device interfacing and
system implementation.
The COM-1240 is an intelligent board incorporating a 32 bit, 24MHz RISC
microprocessor that has compliant firmware supporting the complete
