Typical rugged PC-systems integrates a x86 architecture
CPU, an embedded OS and application specific software along
with required I/O functionality. Systems combine analog and digital I/O
with cellular, WiFi or WiMAX communication and GPS.
In-field or on-site systems require communication to central databases
or servers that are remotely located. This may require high speed WLAN services
in cities or suburban areas. Complete wireless coverage may require additional
roaming in GSM/GPRS, HSDPA, WiMAX, TETRA or CDMA2000 networks. It is possible to
combine this wireless infrastructure with gateways to serve public transportation,
health care and first responders or police forces when required.
